Funds for rodeo

A fundraiser will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mel’s Tires parking lot, 915 Graham St., to support Cheyenne Veatch of Emporia with her trip to the National High School Rodeo Finals at Farmington, N. M. July 20 -26. For a donation of $5, participants will be served a barbecued pork sandwich, baked beans, cheesy potatoes and tea.

Butterfly release

The 5th Annual Community-wide Butterfly Release, sponsored by Hand in Hand Hospice, will be held at 9:30 a.m. July 12 in the Butterfly Garden at the David Traylor Zoo, 75 Soden Road. A suggested donation of $10 reserves a butterfly; with reservations needed by July 7. Parking is available at the zoo education center. Participants are to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on and umbrellas for the sun, if they wish to do so. Proceeds will help Hand in Hand Hospice which provides care to terminally ill people in Lyon, Chase, Morris, Greenwood, Coffey and Osage counties.
