Safe Kids Emporia gets grant funding

Monday, June 30, 2008

The Emporia Police Department announced that Safe Kids Emporia is the recipient of a grant from Safe Kids Worldwide.

Safe Kids Emporia will get $1,800 in grant money. Officer Larry Clay, the coordinator for Safe Kids Emporia said the grant will allow the department and its partners to continue the program of safety education and inspection of child safety seats. Recent partners include Longbine Motors, Staples and Wal-Mart. The award is double the previous year’s amount.

“It speaks well of the community and our efforts to keep our kids safe,” Clay said.

Emporia Police Chief Gary Smith agrees.

“In tough economic times, we have to rely on members of our community and other funding sources to keep important programs like Safe Kids going. Officers Larry Clay and Jeff Illk are to be commended for their efforts to find the funding sources to keep Safe Kids a viable program. I’m also appreciative of our business partners who are key to the continued success of Safe Kids Emporia.”

Thanks officers and to the businesses who are willing to support this project. I've seen all the people who attend these activities and it's a great and positive thing about Emporia!

Well done, Officers Clay and Ilk!!! Yes, it is an important program and a special thank you to Longbine Motors, Staples and Wal-Mart.

I've seen so many complainers rake Jefff Longbine over the coals on this forum, and here he is putting his money to work for the town and only two people show up to say thank you.
