Emporia High’s volleyball team finished third out of 12 teams and went 4-1 overall at the Ottawa Tournament on Saturday.
The Spartans went 3-0 in pool play to earn a No. 3 seed in the Gold bracket. From there, EHS dropped a match to Ottawa 25-12, 25-18.
“The second game was a little bit better,” EHS coach Betsy Martling said, “but they jumped on us a little bit in the first one, and we just couldn’t dig out of it.”
The loss put the Spartans in the third-place game, where they defeated Shawnee Mission West 25-19, 25-20.
“The girls played really well. I’m really happy with them,” Martling said. “I think we’re getting a lot of good momentum (approaching) postseason.”
Emporia next travels to Highland Park on Tuesday, where they will participate in a quad that will also feature Manhattan and Washburn Rural.
