EHS tennis finishes 7th at league in Topeka

Led by 10th-place finishes from its No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles players, Emporia High’s girls tennis team finished seventh at the Centennial League tennis meet Tuesday in Topeka.
Jordan Sosa finished in 10th place in No. 1 singles, going 3-3 at the meet. Sosa defeated Antoinette Cutler of Shawnee Heights 8-2, Abbey Holtz of Topeka High 8-5 and Stephanie Downes of Seaman 8-7 (13-11). Sosa lost to Washburn Rural, Ashley Welch of Topeka West and Molly Stuckey of Junction City.
Rose Nasrazadani also went 3-3 and finished 13th in No. 2 singles. She defeated Kaitlin Burton of Shawnee Heights, Sharon Glasser of Junction City and Sierra Contee of Highland Park, and lost to Avery Clifton of Washburn Rural, Lisa Grause of Seaman and Junction City’s Stuckey.
The Spartans’ top doubles team of Whitney Page and Kaitlin Pedersen finished 10th, scoring victories over teams from Shawnee Heights, Highland Park and Topeka High. Page and Pedersen were defeated by teams from Junction City, Hayden and Seaman.
Tiffany Ma and Kailtin Gile, Emporia’s No. 2 doubles team, finished 16th. They went 1-5 for the meet, defeating a Topeka West duo 8-4.
Washburn Rural won the meet with 91 points. Emporia finished with 41.
