Friday Thoughts is a light-hearted commentary.
LAST WEEK at Rotary, Jeff O’Dell reported on a story about a man in Florida who likes to take his dog for a daily swim in the ocean.
One day on the dog’s swim, a five-foot shark surfaced and grabbed the dog in its mouth. The owner immediately dove in the water to go after the shark, hit the shark and then wrestled the dog from the shark’s jaws.
I was sitting next to Tim North and he quickly confirmed that if a shark got his dog he would have done the same thing.
That made me think about our dog, Abby, and ponder whether I would risk life and limb for her. I thought about our dog’s expensive allergy medicine along with her special dog food for her sensitive stomach. I thought about how our dog likes to go outside to eat grass and then come inside and throw it up on our carpet, then I thought about how Abby likes to look out the window and bark at nothing for hours on end.
I am still not sure what I would do if a shark got our “beloved” Abby, but perhaps the family including Abby would enjoy a vacation to Florida this year.

Of course you would go after Abby. Your children would be traumatized if you didn't. Poor doggie, lemon that she is.

Hopefully Abby doesn't read or you may find her leaving editorial comments all over your best living room rug. Besides, if you lose that one, your kids will expect you to replace her and then you have to start the process all over again (tongue-in-cheek response).
