The Breckinridge County Cafe, which was organized in 1988 and owned by stockholders will close its doors Sept. 15. The building and business were sold and will re-open in two to three weeks after redecorating. There will be a new name, a new look, a new menu, new hours and new owners.
The trophies and trophy cases located in the cafe are property of the Americus Alumni Association and will be moved to the Americus Grade School.
Pride program
The yards of Tom and Lisa Glass, 110 Locust St., and Tom and Linda Rhoads, 701 Fifth St., have been “tagged” for having colorful yards under the program, “Our Community, A More Colorful Place!”
The program is a partnership of Kansas State University; Kansas Pride; the Department of Horticulture, Forestry and Recreation Resources; and Prairie Star (K-State annual flower research). It was started by Alan Stevens, Extension floriculture specialist in the Department of Horticulture at K-State, as a way to improve community appeal through the planting of flowers during the spring, summer and fall.
Members of the Extension Master Gardeners are recognizing and thanking individuals with yards that are enhanced by the planting of colorful flowers, both annuals and perennials. Doorhangers will be left on the doors of homes that have yards identified as adding color to the community.
Antique tractors
A tractorcade to the Ottawa Power of the Past Antique Engine and Tractor Show will leave at 8:30 a.m. Friday from the Army Reserve Center parking lot, 1412 E. Sixth Ave. in Emporia. Members planning to drive are Jim and Sharon Woods, Dale DeLong, Richard Blankley, Roy and Kay Gatewood, Walt Henrie, Cecil Cunningham and Dale and Belle Grimsley. The group will eat lunch in Williamsburg.
