Celebrate harvest in Hartford Saturday

Thursday, September 25, 2008

HARTFORD

It’s time to break out the bed, the tractor and the Wild West spirit — all to celebrate the 18th annual Hartford Harvest Day on Saturday.

Bettina Shank, co-chair of Hartford Harvest Day, said there are a number of new events this year. The tractor barrel roll is new this year. Participants drive a tractor and roll a barrel along lines on the road. The person who can successfully push the barrel along the lines wins, Shank said.

The second new event is the Wild West Olympics. The Olympics will include a wheelbarrow race, land skiing, archery and bobbing for apples.

Other new events include the hula hoop contest and Granny Golf Cart races where participants are asked to maneuver the golf cart through obstacles.

The bed races are being resurrected this year, Shank said. The races include one person laying on the bed and four others pushing it down the street. The bed that reaches the finishes line first wins.

Other events include a talent show, a parade and a evening barbecue. Below is a complete schedule of events. Events will be by the ball diamond in Hartford unless otherwise noted.
