Plenty to do in Chase County

Thursday, September 25, 2008

CHASE COUNTY

There’s no shortage of things to do this fall in Chase County from the 2nd Saturdays and Chase County Christmas.

2nd Saturday

Beginning in November, Cottonwood Falls will hold “2nd Saturday,” where every second Saturday of the month a majority of the shops in town will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. The community is committed to this for the next 14 months beginning in November. Sue Smith, of the Emma Chase Cafe in downtown Cottonwood Falls, said a majority of the participating merchants will be in period dress and many of the shops will have taste-testing. There also will be live entertainment and dining available downtown.

Booth space will be available for groups for a nominal fee during that time as well. People wishing to have a booth for fundraisers, goods or other items can sign up at the Chase County Chamber Office in downtown Cottonwood Falls or call (620) 273-6469.

Contra Days

Every month, Contra Days is held in Cottonwood Falls, where participants will have the opportunity to participate in contra dancing — no experience necessary. Beginner instruction begins at 6:30 p.m. and the dance starts at 7 p.m. The next contra dances are Oct. 18, Nov. 16 and Dec. 20 at the Prairie Coffee Co., 333 Broadway in Cottonwood Falls. Participants are asked to wear soft-soled shoes for dancing. For more information call Jerry Schwilling at (620) 273-6391.

Bazaar Bazaar

Bazaar will be holding its “Bazaar Bazaar” at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 1 at the Bazaar Community Building. There will be a dinner with all the fixins’ and donations are accepted and will be used to maintain the church and the Bazaar Community Building. Following dinner, there will be an auction of handmade, homemade items by the Bazaar Ladies Aid. Proceeds also will go to support the Bazaar Methodist Church’s 100th anniversary festivities in 2009.

Pioneer Bluffs

Hog Roast

The first Pioneer Bluffs Hog Roast will be “A Celebration of Community and Local Foods” from 3 p.m. until dark Oct. 11.

The event, sponsored by the Pioneer Bluffs Foundation, will be at the Pioneer Bluffs near Matfield Green. Everyone is invited to attend. Pioneer Bluffs will provide the meat, table service, iced tea and lemonade, with music by The Dean Boys and Carol. Community members should bring a covered dish and lawn chairs. A scavenger hunt for the whole family will be at 3:30 p.m. Dinner will begin around 5 p.m.  Chase County

Country Christmas

The Chase County Country Christmas will be on Nov. 29 and will include a homes tour, fruit cake toss, lots of food and merchants will be open for business. There will be a Diamond W concert at 11 a.m. Tickets are available at the City of Cottonwood Falls Office and the Chase County Chamber Office, both in Cottonwood Falls. Tickets are $5 and seating is limited. For more information contact (620) 273-6469.
