Lyon County commissioners signed the 2009 ambulance agreement with the City of Emporia during Thursday’s action session.
Scott Briggs, Lyon County Commission chairman, said the county gave the city one mil, which is $239,000 in funding for the ambulance service. Briggs said the other change to the contract is liability. In the agreement, the city of Emporia will take liability in case one of the emergency vehicles gets into an accident, Briggs said.
In other business, Lyon County has agreed to pay $10 for flu shots for county employees and have encouraged county employees to attend the mass vaccination clinic, which will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Anderson Building at the Lyon County Fairgrounds. The cost of the vaccination this year is $20. The vaccination clinic serves a dual purpose: to give the public flu shots and to provide a training exercise for first responders. Volunteers are needed for the event. To volunteer call (620) 342-4864, Ext. 278. There is a consent form available at www.flinthillshealth.org. People can download the form and fill it out to bring with them on Oct. 21, Marsh said.
Other items included commissioners approving:
• two county employees attending the Kansas Bridge Maintenance: A Workshop for Local Agencies in Topeka on Nov. 6 and pay the $65 registration fees and related travel expenses.
• Chip Woods, Lyon County engineer, attending the KAC Conference on Nov. 17 and pay the $125 registration and related travel expenses.
• the purchase of tires for dump trucks for a total price of $2,087.80.
• sending a written notice to K-Camp from the commission on or before Nov. 1. The letter states that Lyon County is seeking bids from other insurance companies.
