Americus Days set for Saturday

Lyon County will see its second large festival of the season Saturday — this time in Americus, where Americus Days will provide activities and fun throughout the entire day and into the night.

The day will open with an early morning pancake feed and a 5K fun run/walk. A parade also will be in the morning. Activities include a softball tournament, helicopter landing by Life Team, car club display, horseshoe pitching contest, tractor pull, hot dog feed, homemade ice cream and a raffle. The day will close with a dance.

Below is a complete schedule of events:

• 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Pancake Feed and Biscuits & Gravy by Americus by United Methodist Church, located at Americus Grade School.

• 7:15 a.m. - Registration, 8:00 a.m. – Race starts, 5K Fun Run/Walk sponsored by Americus Recreation Organization, held in City Park

• 8:00 a.m. Co-Ed Softball Tournament, City Pool diamond

• 8:00 a.m. Free coffee; “Americus in the Past,” photos & memorabilia and Antique Quilt Show, Senior Center building

• 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Vendors are on display

• 9:00 a.m. Americus Days Car & Truck Show, City Park

• 9:30 a.m. Helicopter landing by Life Team north of fire station

• 10 a.m. – Line Up for parade, Main & Walnut, For entries, contact Belle Grimsley 443-5546

• 11 a.m. – Parade

• After parade, Emporia Antique Car Club display, south of Masonic Lodge

• 1 p.m. Americus Jr. High/NLC Cheerleaders Fundraiser Games, tennis court

• 1 p.m. Horseshoe Pitching Tournament, doubles draw partners, City Park

• 1 p.m. Flint Hills Antique Power Association Tractor Pull, College Block

• 1 to 3 p.m. David Traylor Zoo of Emporia Docent and Critters, Americus Township Library

• 6 p.m. until run out, free hot dog feed by Allen Meat Processing and KansasLand Bank, City Park

• 6 p.m. Homemade ice cream by Heins & Company Relay for Life Team, located at City Park

• 7 p.m. raffle winners announced, tennis court

• 8 p.m. to midnight, Dance to Jared Daniels Band, by donation, cake walk and $5 cooler charge, located at the tennis court.
