West 50 project
Friday, July 3, 2009
The City Engineer’s Office said work will begin Tuesday on the first phase of a reconstruction project on West U.S. Highway 50, beginning at the intersection with Graphic Arts Road. The phase will consist of storm sewer installation and reconstruction of the two eastbound lanes.
West Highway 50 will remain open, but traffic will be shifted to the north side of the highway and the south side of the Graphic Arts Road intersection will be closed.
The project will consist of four phases and is expected to take 120 days. Traffic flow will be altered while the work is being done.

Wait, did they say REconstruction?! Meaning, they constructed it once (using tax payer dollars) and now they have to do it again?! You would think with the amount of money (our money) that is used for these projects, that maybe someone would consider getting it right the first time. Prime example is the intersection of Graphic Arts and 15th that is still blocked off. I would just like to say thank you for wasting my money for me.

What about the article in Thursday's paper about the 15th Street solution? Did anyone else catch that it seems that the solution is to post that there are no left turns off of 15th, and to make this change they said it would cost $30,000.00? I would think that would consist of maybe a couple of signs and possibly some paint, how does that equal up to 30 grand?! That is insane! Perhaps I read it wrong, or it was posted in the gazette incorrectly, or they omitted some pertinent piece of info. Can someone clarify it for me?

Good question giggles! I'll paint them a couple signs myself for a bargain price of $25,000 and save the taxpayers 5 grand. If a few 'no left turn' signs cost that much, can you imagine how much it would cost them to actually fix the bridge/mistake they originally made? Who was in charge of that mess anyway? Shouldn't that person/company be held financially responsible for screwing it up and fix it on their own dime?
