“Save the Pool Day” on Saturday at the Americus swimming pool will offer something for almost every taste, according to one of the event organizers, Jana Smart.
Live bands will begin playing at 1 p.m., concession stands will run during the afternoon and kids’ games and pony rides also are on the agenda, in addition to all-day swimming.
“And it will also be open into the evening, which it’s usually not,” Smart said.
The bands will include Mike Miller and Friends, The Basement Pickers Association and Rick Carson and Friends. Each will play a three-hour set, with disc jockey Terry Shown filling in with recorded music and patter during breaks.
A barbecue featuring brisket and cheesy potatoes as the entree is planned at 5 p.m., with plates sold by donation rather than set price.
An ice cream social, with sales also by donation, will follow the barbecue.
All of the activities will be held at the pool and the park adjoining it.
“We just need to continue raising (money),” Smart said.
The money will be used to make needed repairs and to keep the pool open and safe for use, she said.
