Here is some history of the Flint Hills Antique Power Association. This was taken from the Jan. 14, 2001, minutes written by Mark Say.

The tractor club members, spouses and friends met Jan. 14, 2001, in the basement of the Emporia Masonic Temple with a carry-in dinner.

The club treasurer, Marc Pierce, reported the amounts received this year for tractor pulls, calendar sales and for the pedal tractor raffle. DeWayne Backhus reported that pedal tractors for this year are paid for and ready to be picked up at Miley Equipment.

A discussion was held concerning a P.A. system and Cale Bonebrake moved that Jim Woods be authorized to look into this situation.

The club will take part in the Lyon County Fair in August.

The election of officers resulted in the following: Wayne Eikenberry, president; Raymond Van Sickle, vice president; Mark Say, re-elected secretary; and Marc Pierce, re-elected treasurer.

Belle Grimsley provided information about the first ever “lighted holiday parade” for tractors only which will be on Dec. 1, 2001.

The pulling committee volunteers are Richard Blankley, Walt Blankley, Richard Gowen and P.D. Miller.

The speaker for the evening was Richard Garber who was introduced by Dewayne Backhus. Garber, originally from the Sheridan, Wyo., area, grew up on a farm where his family raised cattle, sheep, crops and owned John Deere dealerships. Garber talked about adventures on his family’s farm and told of some amusing happenings.

Members and guests who attended the first annual meeting were: Orville and Darlene Worcester, Mark and Barbara Say, Gary and Becky Watts, Gary and Frances Smith, Raymond and Twila Fowler, Elton and Diane Jensen, Kale and Juanita Bonebrake, Dewayne and Sherry Backhus, Patrick Gordon, Rob Gordon, David and Linda Frederiksen, Don ImMasche, Dennis and Sandy Schroeder, David and Tyson Orear, Marvin Emley, Wayne Eikenberry, Dale and Belle Grimsley, Richard and Angela Blankley, Larry and Sharon Peres, Wayne and Penny Lee, Richard and Cheryl Gowen, Jerry and Allison Keller, Charles and Jimmy Sue Sells, Stan and Matthew Fowler, Troy and Michelle Thompson and Duane Jacob.
