HARTFORD — Flooding was the main challenge for the bridge north of Hartford, causing construction to take two years instead of one. Despite the challenges, the bridge should be open by the end of next week.
Chris Rech, area manager of A.M. Cohron and Son, said the project began on Feb. 17, 2007. The project replaced most of the old bridge, widening it from 28 feet to 38 feet. The bridge was built in halves to allow access to Hartford, but it was similar to building two bridges, Rech said. Most of the crews working on the bridge are from Emporia, Rech said.
