HAYS — Getting to the title match was one thing.
Winning it was another.
The Lebo volleyball team was extended to the limit in rallying past top-seeded Oberlin in Saturday’s semifinals of the Class 2A State Championships.
In the title match, Moundridge — led by 6-foot senior hitter Jessie Vogts — was too much for an emotionally drained Wolves squad. Moundridge (36-9) won its eighth state title, beating Lebo 25-15, 25-20 at Gross Memorial Coliseum.

Maybe it was just me, but the title to this article has a negative feel to it. While I realize reporting on a team that took 2nd place is not quite as fun as reporting on one that takes 1st, maybe a more appropriate title would be "Lebo Takes 2nd Place at 2A Volleyball Tourney". I don't think any team "settles" for anything when it comes to sports. I know this team certainly doesn't! This group of girls had a tremendous season and worked hard to get to the state tournament. I know they were heartbroken when they didn't win the title match, but do you know what they are talking about now? They're talking about how much they love their team and the fun times they had together playing volleyball. They are proud of themselves & their parents, coaches and fans are proud as well. Great job at state Lebo Lady Wolves!!! We are all proud of you!
