Emporia High School seniors Mayra Hernandez and David Harzman finished second in the varsity division of the Topeka Seaman Invitational Debate Tournament on Saturday.
Freshmen Will Kraft and Clarissa Negrete took first, Barbara Haynes and Talia Smith were second, Jessica Hilbish and Megan Hilbish finished third, and Megan Weatherred and Mercedes Bounthapanya placed sixth in the novice division. EHS also received a team sweepstakes trophy.
Seniors Drew Bonnet and Kathryn Scherich went 7-1 and finished 6th at the Kansas City Kansas Community College Tournament of Champions. Eight-three teams from 6 states attended. Bonnet placed ninth as individual speaker; Scherich placed 15th.
