Scam targets senior citizens
Emporia Police Department
Wednesday, October 14, 2009
Lyon County Crime Stoppers asks that senior citizens be aware of a new scam that has been reported in the Emporia area.
A caller poses as the senior’s grandchild and reports they have been in a car wreck in Canada and have been arrested for a DUI. The caller asks for bail money to be wired to Canada. It is thought that personal information about grandkids is possibly being gained from FaceBook computer sites making the call seem more authentic.
If you have any information about a crime please call Lyon County Crime Stoppers at 342-2273 or the Emporia Police Department at 343-4200.

This wouldn't be a problem if we could pass some health care reform and get those "death panels" in place...oops! Did I type that out loud? LOL
If you're dumb enough to send money to a stranger then I say you deserve to be scammed. Being elderly isn’t an excuse for being naïve.

Henry, You never fail to disgust me. I hope when you get home today that your mother runs out from under the front porch and bites you!

create,
Um… I’m pretty sure your post is supposed to be some sort of insult, so here’s my response:
Leave my mother out of this! I hope when you get home your 2nd cousin climbs out of the sewer lagoon and kicks you in the shin! That’ll learn ya!

create, I agree with you. Henry, you must not have had an aging parent with dementia. Not that I think very much of you, but I hope you never do have to experience it.

Nobody,
I am very sorry. I wasn't intending to be insensitive. If (Obama forbid) your parent is suffering from dementia, he or she probably shouldn't be in charge of their finances. Therefore, they wouldn't have the means to send money to a would-be scammer.
In my mind, there are 2 scenarios here:
a. Elderly person is in their right mind and should know not to send money to a stranger.
b. Elderly person is incapable of handling their own finances and would not have access to the funds to enable to send the money.
Either way, this shouldn't be a problem. Use common sense people.

You just aren't savvy about this, Henry, so give it up. There is a difference between dementia and alzheimers. You seem to be confusing the two. Besides, an elder doesn't have to have a disease to be taken in by a scam. It happens all too often.
Your original comment re: death panels and deserving to be scammed still stands as being distasteful and just plain offensive. You changed your username, but you didn't change your old nasty crackinsack attitude.
And you just didn't get it at all about your mother biting you.
