Sweepstakes goes to EHS debaters

On Saturday, the Emporia High School debate team won the first place sweepstakes trophy at the Junction City Invitational debate tournament. Fourteen schools participated.
Lawrence Free State High School placed second and Salina South placed third.
Juniors Oscar Lara and Juan Rios placed second in the open division. Freshmen Jacob Wright and Arunothyan Paramanathan took first place in the novice division, while Morgan Nail and Jordan Kiser tied with Kendra Crisp and Kimberly Riebel for third.
Other EHS debaters who contributed to the win included David Harzman, Mayra Hernandez, Sonia Lara, Matthew Parra, Megan Dorcas, Madison Ziegler, Gabrielle Moore, and Hershel DuBree.
