The Emporia Convention and Visitors Bureau, which received two awards from the Travel Industry Association of Kansas. One award was for the visitors’ guide and another award was for a rack card project to promote local attractions and events. Betty Senn, Susan Rathke and Chassidy Bryan went to Overland Park to receive the awards.
• Members of the Emporia High football team, which clinched a state playoff berth with a 32-28 win over Salina Central.
• The 1874 Stonehouse of Cottonwood Falls, which was selected as Best in the Midwest in the annual Best of Bedandbreakfast.com contest. The award was based on qualitative and quantitative review of nearly 100,000 independent reviews submitted to bestofbedandbreafast.com
• Blue Fox, a new business that opened at 727 Commercial St. The store will sell Big Green Egg grills, Sunheat heaters and Dream Maker spas.
• Joe Smith, who was named King of the Track at Heartland Park. Smith earned the championship in the Super Pro division and finished ahead of the other divisions.
• Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1980, which is sponsoring a holiday fund drive to provide care packages for servicemen from our area serving overseas. To make a donation, call Ralph Tebbetts at 757-5633.
