Henderson wins Wamego Invite

Olpe cross country runner Katelyn Henderson was victorious in the girls run on Saturday at the Wamego Invitational, and the Olpe boys finished second at the event.

Henderson, Olpe’s only girls varsity competitor, finished in 16 minutes, 8.29 seconds, beating Thomas More Prep’s Heather Ruder, who posted a time of 16:18.52. One spot behind Ruder was Northern Heights’ Kimberly Smith, who finished in 16:32.37 to lead the Ladycats to a fifth-place team finish. Other competitors for the Heights girls included Elizabeth Karr, who finished 26th with a time of 19:11.08; Ashley Heston, who ran the course in 19:33.93 to finish 39th; Savanna Chestnut, 19:37.53, 40th; and Chelsea Carr, 20:41.22, 63rd. Riley County won the girls team title with 88 points. Norton Community, Thomas More and Rossville all had 88 points, and Heights finished fifth with 126.

On the boys side, Olpe’s Colton Bess and Colby Nuessen led the Eagles, finishing seventh and eighth respectively. Bess posted a time of 18:57.95, and Nuessen finished in 19:02.98. Lance Sadler finished 17th with a time of 19:23.92. Ethan Hall finished 42nd with a run of 20:39.14; Kyle Barnhart was 65th with a time of 21:33.18; Noah Haag was 70th at 21:49.77; and Andrew Spellman finished 92nd with a time of 23:06.06. The Eagle boys finished with 121 team points, just one behind first-place Riley County.

The Northern Heights boys finished 12th out of 15 squads. Justin Heston led the Wildcats with a 19:31.17 time and a 20th-place finish. Brian Hultgren ran 35th with a time of 20:19.74; Dalton Rhoads finished 63rd with a time of 21:29.16; Matthew Parks finished 86th with a time of 22:34.21; Jon Lowder was 89th with a time of 22:59.61; and Michael Hawthorne was 123rd, clocking a 27:16.37. Raymundo Hernandez of Thomas More Prep won the boys individual title with a time of 18:18.55.

Madison, Chase

County split

Madison and Chase County split a pair of volleyball matches on Sept. 10 at Chase County.

Madison won the first battle of Bulldogs by scores of 25-15, 25-19. The second match went three sets, with Madison taking the first 25-21, then losing the second 25-20 before rebounding to win the third set 25-21.
