LEBO — Every penny counts for the Lebo Pre/Play School in Lebo.
It’s not cheap running a child care center and those expenses often get passed on to parents whose children are attending the center. The Lebo Pre/Play School is taking a different approach by raising money to help defray the costs of expenses. Since the Lebo Pre/Play School is not funded through the local school district, all the money comes through tuition and fundraisers, said Dawn Williams, treasurer.
A fundraiser is planned for this fall. C. Allen Photography of Emporia will take portraits with a Christmas background. Each student will sell tickets for $20, which includes the sitting fee and an 8x10 portrait. Other packages will be available for purchase when the portraits are taken, Williams said.
Portraits will be taken on Nov. 13, 14 and 15 at the Coffey County Library, Lebo Branch. Those holding tickets will be contacted by the photographer to schedule a portrait time.
Every penny counts for the pre-school, Williams said.
“The school has had time where we are so close on our money that I worry about getting the doors open,” she said. “We always seem to get that donation that gets us through the year. ... We run on a very tight budget so every penny counts.”
