I hope they'll be making more than they did last time kabobs were on the menu! I brought my family around 6 and they were gone. Bobby D's got our business that night!!

The inhumane horrors and daily incidences of violence and brutality against women and children in the Congo makes me physically nautious. Thinking of what a young girls life may be like living in that horiffic environment is something most of us cannot fathom.
Putting our heads in the sand and not addressing it with our own families and children (males and females) continues to keep the shame and stigma of rape in the darkened corners where nobody wants to venture.
Not to diminish the plight of Congolese victims, our own national stats on rape are nothing to be boastful about. Now stats are proving that 1 in 3 women in our country will be a victim of sexual assault in her lifetime. We all have a responsibility to step up with our families and talk about power and control, healthy relationships and dating, setting boundaries and not to let our young men get sucked into the stereotype of equating being a real man with dominance, power and aggression over others.

My hope is that their son is still welcomed into the program with open arms. It's not his fault that this happened in his family and I'd hate to see him take the brunt of this event. He's a bright up and coming wrestler with lots of potential. School and sports are stressful enough without added pressure from everyone else talking down about your family.

Good point Steve. I agree. I also however know that some folks would balk and throw a big fit that some of their meal proceeds are going to support United Way. All comes back to choice... they could choose to not eat at Pizza Hut from 3 to 9, or bring in a voucher making it clear they want to participate in the fundraiser. Remember they (Pizza Hut) have to make EVERYONE happy... (sarcasm intended). Maybe the city could have considered smoking vouchers... j/k!

God bless you and your family and prayers for a safe return. Being away must be so difficult for your whole family. I hope Stephanie has lots of support in Emporia. Best of luck on the rest of your tour.

It's too bad Camp Alexander is in the financial struggle they are in. It is a loss to see LeLan go. Our kids spent a week there this summer and had a blast. He did an excellent job running camp. I hope the board can secure funding to keep Camp Alexander going. It is a bright spot for our community.

Thank you Clint for helping make a trip to the pool with the family a little less painful on the pocketbook! What a generous gift to Emporia.

Glad to see my "sad at circus" peeps making a showing! I was beginning to feel like I was the only soft heart out there! hahaha.
Gabby: glad you took my comments humorously..they were inteded that way. However, I stay strong in the "I'm not going to the circus" stand!! It would be a waste of money..two kiddos with "deer in the headlights" look on their faces and an anxious mother with her hands over her eyes!!
They can just complain to a therapist in the next 20 years on all they "missed out" in their childhood!! I can already hear it.. "and mom never took us to the circus!!..."

Thank God for Mr. Broadfoot and every other teacher out there who have made lifelong positive impressions on their students. My guess is we all have a Mr. Broadfoot who changed us for the better.
